The Ping command troubleshoots your Internet connection to a website by measuring the time it takes for a packet of data to go from your computer to an outside URL.
Windows
- Hold the Windows key and press the R key to open the Run dialog box.
- Type cmd and click OK.
- Type ping www.yoursitesurl.com and press Enter. Replace the"www.yoursitesurl.com" with the appropriate website URL.
- Allow several minutes for the ping test to complete.
- Your ping information should start to display on the screen.
- If needed select the text and copy and past it into a document or form.
- Type exit and press Enter to close the command window.
Mac OS
- On the Toolbar, click Go and select the Utilities folder.
- Double-click the Terminal icon.
- Type ping www.yoursitesurl.com and press Return. Replace the "www.yoursitesurl.com" with the appropriate website URL.
- Allow several minutes for the ping test to complete.
- Your ping information should start to display on the screen.
- If needed select the text and copy and past it into a document or form.
- Type exit and press Return to close the terminal.
