This document will explain the merits of using either Sequential or Free options in the Layout area of your quiz settings.
The objective is to make you aware of both settings and what they do. The "Free" setting allows your students to go back and answer a quiz question that was initially presented but not answered. The "Sequential" setting means your students don't have the opportunity to go back and answer missed questions effectively forfeiting those questions.
In some cases your Moodle/Totara settings may already default to "Free". If this is not the case please follow the below steps.

To setup a quiz for Free navigation please do the following:
Navigate to a course with a test attached to it eg: Home/ ► Courses/ ► Mobile/ ► MMI
- Turn Editing on,
- Then go to where a Quiz is located
- Click on the quiz
- Edit Settings.
- Open the Layout area
- As the Navigation Method is hidden click on "Show more".
Click on Show more....
Select "Free" from the drop down in the Navigation Method if you want students to go back and review or answer any unanswered questions
In the case where you don't want students to go back and review or answer unanswered questions make sure your setting is set to Sequential
Best Practices and Common Mistakes
Common Mistake 1
Not making the changes prior to the quiz, and having the student not be able to go back and answer missed questions.
