Totara Learn offers a wide variety of course enrolment methods. Before using them, Site Administrators must enable all enrolment method plugins by going to Plugins > Enrolments > Manage enrol plugins from the quick-access menu.
Each course can have different enrolment methods configured at the course level. Enrolment methods can be hidden, have their settings changed, and be reordered.
If any enrolment method is disabled, users who have been enrolled through that method will have their enrolment disabled. Although they will stay enrolled in the course, they won't be able to access the course activities. Their progress and completion tracking will be paused until the enrolment method is reenabled or they enrol in the course using another method.
Types of Enrolment Method
Manual enrolments - Site Administrators, Editing Trainers, or other roles with the necessary permissions manually enrol individual users.
Guest access - Users can view course materials but cannot participate.
Self enrolment - Users can choose to enrol themselves in a course.
Audience sync - Users who belong to an audience will be enrolled, and when they are no longer members, they will be unenrolled.
Program - Users are enrolled in courses when they enrol in a program or certification, provided the program or certification rules allow it.
Seminar direct enrolment - Users not enrolled in a course can sign up for a seminar event and be enrolled in the course.
Learning plan - Totara enrols learners in courses in their approved learning plan.
Enable and Disable Enrolment Methods at the Site Level
To use specific enrolment methods at the course level, Site Administrators must first enable them at the site level. Follow these steps to configure which enrolment methods are enabled:
- Go to Quick-access menu > Plugins > Enrolments > Manage enrol plugins.
- Enable the enrolment method(s) you wish to use by clicking the eye icons. Methods with an open eye icon are enabled, while a closed eye icon means the method is disabled.
- To change the plugin settings, click on Settings next to the enrolment plugin(s) you have chosen.
- If you have changed any settings for an enrolment method, click the Save changes button.
Configure Course Enrolment Methods
Log in as a course administrator, select the course you want to change > Course administration > Users > Enrolment methods. You can configure which options are enabled for the course by toggling the open and closed eye icons. Click the cog icon to configure a method's settings.
If a desired enrolment method is not listed, you can add it using the Add method dropdown menu. Once you have selected a method, configure its settings, and click Add method.
